Introduction to Climate Systems (Week 2) - Post 3

Introduction to Climate Systems - Post 3

My reaction to this weeks learning is joy and amazement. I am really happy to have found a subject in school in which I never tire of learning more about. The module I went through this week was especially long, however I did not mind due to my newly discovered fascination of learning about climate and environmental sciences. I am also absolutely amazed at how intricate and specific the science is surrounding climate change. When someone says the word global warming I no longer think of a vague term, I imagine all the delicate balances in the ecosystem that exists, and I think of the specific environmental factors that lead to a global temperature increase. The point of this week was to learn what climate change and global warming means; I now know what scientists mean when they say the term, and I  know what information backs up their statements.

I question the science behind a few of the effects of climate temperature increase, one example would be ocean coral bleaching; I do not doubt for a second that global warming is the cause of it, however I would like to see the specific science behind it. While the course does a great job of scientifically backing up their teachings, one website that was recommended could have been more thorough. Much like I need to see the mathematical proof in order to understand and use a mathematical theorems, I need to see the scientific data supporting each of these environmental issues.

  1. You may have to be proactive on your own research even during the course. You will need it later in the semester.
